"We are a ship without a captain as far as I can tell. Pentagon staff are instructed to keep quiet or retire -- If they go public while they are in uniform they are subject to penalties or court-martialing," said Joe Allbaugh on KOKE-FM, 98.5, Tuesday morning.
As a panelist on the "Face Off" segment of the venerable Bob Cole's Austin-centric morning drive program, "KOKE and Cole in the Morning," Allbaugh called President Barack Obama "naive" and expressed fear for America's safety.
"We learned overnight that some of the intelligence that has been prepared for his eyes only has been doctored," Allbaugh said. "And it's pretty disturbing that the President of the United States is receiving filtered information as opposed to what we call 'the true skinny.'"
Allbaugh said individual members of the CIA, NSA, and the Defense Intelligence Agency are gradually coming forward and saying "how they have been told to clean up their reports and present them in a certain way before they reach the President." This fact has been reported by several media outlets in recent months; as well during a flap in 2011 when Obama Administration officials called the Muslim Brotherhood "secular" and not based on religion (which was quickly corrected by a White House spokesman).
"That's the reason why President called ISIS 'the JV team.' Obviously, they're not the JV team. ... And now everyone in the world is running to Putin for protection instead of us."
Allbaugh served as Gov. Bush's chief of staff after managing his 1994 gubernatorial campaign. He played a prominent leadership role in Bush's 2000 presidential campaign, and was later appointed director of FEMA until it was rolled into the Department of Homeland Security, resigning in 2003. Allbaugh was also Rick Perry's presidential campaign manager for his failed 2012 run.
During Allbaugh's tenure, he was referred to by the media as a part of Bush's "iron triangle," also consisting of Karl Rove and Karen Hughes.
