Street preacher given ticket for hurting a student's feelings

Happy Sunday, everyone!

While many of you are at church listening to your minister speak his mind on topics of God and morality, the University of Texas area is not as friendly a pulpit for a traveling evangelist.

An intern under Jed Smock's evangelistic ministry was given a ticket by a UT police officer for ... get this ...

Offending someone.

"It doesn't matter if it's free speech, if someone is offended, that's against the law," the officer said to the young open-air preacher, who recorded his conversation with the campus police.

The police chief later called and apologized for the baseless ticket given on a public area leading to the campus.

To be fair, Brother Jed and his disciples can be ... well, judge for yourself. But where would this country be without routine testing of the boundaries of free speech? Let's remember that as we rest and worship today.

We strongly support the First Amendment. But we ask that you keep it friendly and PG.
