Zimmerman: 'Is this our city, or is this Waterworld?'

Northwest Austin City Councilman Don Zimmerman found himself in hot water with the city hall establishment this week for fighting for fair utility bills. His response, based on a series of that and other water-related woes endured over the past few months: A meme featuring the 1995 post-apocalyptic Kevin Costner film "Waterworld."

If you've never seen "Waterworld," here's a spoiler-free summary: it's basically "The Road Warrior" but set in a scenario where Al Gore was somehow right and sea levels rose to the point where land is hard to come by. Floating cities made from derelict ships and rough-hewn metal are havens to pirate-dictators whose greed and desire for control keep an otherwise bustling civilization from discovering a better way of living.

Zimmerman's Facebook page was a tad bit more diplomatic, though:

A study of water meters released this week unveiled that bills were 10 times higher than they should have been.
I get reprimanded by city attorneys for daring to represent a constituent during a water rate hearing.
And even though we're paying so much for our water, and even with record rainfall and full lakes, the City of Austin wants to make one-day-per-week watering restrictions PERMANENT.
Is this our city, or is this "Waterworld?" ...
