Planned Parenthood and 'Gosnell' pre-screening to clash at Austin hotel (UPDATE: screening canceled)

UPDATE: the screening has been canceled by the hotel. Read more.

As posh Planned Parenthood patrons prepare to gather in downtown Austin for a gala, just down the hallway an upcoming feature film surrounding the grotesque murders perpetrated by notorious abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell is scheduled for an advanced screening.

Coincidence? That would be tremendously ironic, but the timing is quite intentional. Texas Alliance for Life booked the same hotel with a mind to "shine a light in the darkness as we host this event at the same time and location Planned Parenthood ..."

Former Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards is the keynote for the Saturday, Sept. 29, gala for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, at the Hyatt Regency (208 Barton Springs Road, Austin). The screening is set to begin at 6 p.m. in a nearby suite.

Pro-life protesters are gathering outside the hotel from 5:30 to 7 p.m. led by Pro-Life Waco and joined by other groups. Word has it they have booked an airplane with a banner reading "Stop Planned Parenthood."

The intent isn't to pick a fight, producers insist, but to engage in dialogue. According to the conservative news source the Daily Wire"Producers have invited Planned Parenthood leader Cecile Richards to the screening, as the Pro-life activists will be unavoidably mingling with pro-choice supporters in the hotel on September 29th."

With the movie's run time of about 90 minutes, Richards would be able to catch the show and give a full report by 7:30 p.m. at the gala.

As a little background on the movie's subject matter: Dr. Gosnell was accused of both murdering a young mother and hundreds of newborns (no, not pre-borns -- actual born babies) in his Pennsylvania abortion mill. After his 2014 trial, he was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder and one count of involuntary manslaughter. (To learn more we recommend the 2015 documentary "3801 Lancaster," which was also quite good.)

According to the movie's website, Dean Cain, Michael Beach, Earl Billings, and Sarah Jane Morris star in the Nick Searcy-directed film, due in theaters Oct. 12 but with a few advance screenings in select cities such as Austin (see below).

According to Davida Stike, President and Chairman of the Board of Texas Alliance for Life, the film concerns a horrific event but is suitable for a general audience (for a PG-13-rated movie, anyway):
I have seen this movie at another pre-screening event several months ago. I wasn't sure what to expect knowing the story and to some degree followed the trial.
The script, in many cases, are the exact words spoken from the witness stand. The writers did this purposely for those that would make statements about the facts portrayed.
It is not graphic, and the story is told and written so that even teens can see this movie.
A spotlight is shined on the issue of abortion and the lives it destroys.
This man Gosnell still thinks of himself as a hero and approves of the way these women were treated, even left to die, and that hundreds and hundreds of unborn children were deprived of their life.
The loss of life continues ...
Please support the brave efforts of these film makers ...
The Tracker recommends our readers join the protest line outside the hotel on Sept. 29 and see the movie two days later on Oct. 1.

The Oct. 1 pre-screening is co-hosted Texas Alliance for Life, as well as the Travis County Republican Party and Austin LifeCare, at Regal Cinemas Gateway 16 & IMAX, 9700 Stonelake Blvd., in northwest Austin. The cost $20, with proceeds going to the county party. To RSVP (do it quick before the theater fills up) go to www.GosnellAustin.com or TravisGOP.com.
