Martinez: a vote for Hernandez is a vote to make Austin a 'sanctuary city'

Deported FIVE TIMES. Still not enough.
While there is a lot of debate over what, exactly, a "sanctuary city" consists of, one thing is clear: Electing a liberal Democrat as Travis County's top cop would do nothing but increase the amount of sanctuaries available for illegal immigrants.

Open trade advocates have their points to make, and there are plenty of merits to the "Texas Solution" touted by the Republican Platform in 2012. Ask three immigration reform activists what the solution is and you'll get four answers. But no matter how you slice it, illegal immigration is illegal and attracts other illegal behavior.

Read Travis County Sheriff candidate Joe Martinez' latest press release below, as well as the link to a recent Fox 7 story, if you're not entirely convinced.

MARTINEZ: AS SHERIFF HERNANDEZ WOULD MAKE TRAVIS COUNTY FAR MORE DANGEROUS AS A SANCTUARY CITY
Would Hernandez Release Coria-Gonzales under her ‘Sanctuary City’ Pledge?

AUSTIN – Republican candidate for Travis County Sheriff, Joe Martinez, highlighted a local news report about the arrest of Nicodemo Coria-Gonzales, who faces six charges including “aggravated sexual assault and kidnapping.”
According to KTBC Fox 7, Coria-Gonzales “poured gasoline on one victim and tried to set her on fire” and “picked up prostitutes and beat them out of anger.”

Coria-Gonzales has allegedly illegally entered the U.S. six times and has been deported five times.

His case is a serious matter for public safety. He should be kept in jail until the charges against him are fully adjudicated.

However, a case like his is a perfect example of the danger that Democratic candidate for Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez poses to our citizens.

Anyone who has been deported five times and is arrested would be the subject of an Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “detainer,” a request from the federal government to local law enforcement to hold that person so that the federal government can enforce immigration laws against them. It prevents a criminal from being released while they await trial.

“It appears that Coria-Gonzales has been violently attacking innocent Austin women for years, as one of the most dangerous criminals in our city,” said Martinez, a law enforcement veteran with 30 years of experience.  “Sally Hernandez has pledged to make Austin a ‘sanctuary city,’ which would result in the release of thousands of dangerous criminals right back onto our streets. Would Sally Hernandez release Coria-Gonzales if he made bail? Would she ignore an ICE detainer for him? By overturning current policy set by Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton, would she immediately release all illegal immigrants being held in our prisons due to ICE detainers? Travis County voters deserve to know exactly how much less safe Sally Hernandez pledges to make Travis County if she is elected.”

Joe Martinez pledges not to make Austin a sanctuary city if he is elected Sheriff, the same policy held by outgoing Travis County Sheriff Greg Hamilton.

“Sheriffs should make their citizens safer, not less safe,” said Martinez.
